Using Private Channels with Sweep's Slack Integration

Learn how to add Sweep to a private Slack channel so it can be used as a recipient in automations and alerts.

Overview

Sweep's Slack integration works with public channels out of the box. To use a private channel as a recipient in automations or alerts, the Sweep app must be added to the channel first. This is required because Slack prevents apps from discovering or interacting with private channels they haven't been explicitly added to.

Step 1: Add Sweep to the Private Channel

  1. Open the private channel in Slack and Click the channel name at the top

  2. Go to → IntegrationsAdd an App

  3. Search for Sweep and add it

4. Once added, the private channel will appear as an option in Sweep's channel dropdown when configuring automations and alerts.

Step 3: Verify in Sweep

Go to the relevant automation in Sweep. The private channel should now be selectable from the channel list. If it still doesn't appear, try refreshing the page — Sweep pulls the channel list dynamically.
