Gates in the Funnel Editor are conditions that govern the movement of records between stages in a Salesforce business process. They ensure that records advance only when specific criteria are met, aligning workflows with business logic and maintaining data quality.

Key Aspects of Gates

  • Conditional Rules for Movement: Gates are set up between stages in a funnel to define conditions that records must meet to proceed. For example, a record might only move from one stage to the next if a required field is populated or meets a certain threshold.

  • Automatic vs. Manual Movement:

    • Automatic Gates: When a gate is set to automatic, records progress between stages automatically as soon as the conditions are satisfied. This is useful for streamlined processes where defined criteria can reliably trigger advancement.

    • Manual Gates: Gates can also be configured for manual progression, meaning that records only advance when an end user actively moves them to the next stage. This provides control over workflows that require user oversight.

  • Improving Data Hygiene: Gates help maintain data accuracy by ensuring that records meet quality standards at each stage. By enforcing specific criteria, gates help teams keep data organized and prevent records from moving prematurely.

Accessing and Setting Up Gates

You can access and configure gates in two ways:

  1. Click the Line Between Stages: In the Funnel Editor canvas, select the line connecting two stages to open gate settings for that specific transition.

  2. Click on a Stage: By clicking on a stage, you’ll see the gate settings for all transitions from that stage to others, giving you an overview of all conditions that apply to records moving from that point.

Once in the gate settings, you can:

  • Define Conditions based on Salesforce field values or other criteria required for a record to advance.

  • Choose Automatic or Manual Progression depending on whether the record should move automatically or with user intervention.

With gates, you can create business processes that reflect precise requirements, providing both flexibility and control in managing Salesforce.
